NEW DELHI: The mobile subscribers across India will soon get freedom from the unwanted commercial communications as the norm of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to prohibit the number of SMSes per SIM per day to 100 comes into force from September 27.
On September 5, the telecom regulator had come out with the proposal to stop pesky calls and text messages from September 27. It also ordered that no access provider (operators) will be permitted the transmission of over 100 SMSes per day per SIM.
Moreover, the limit will not be applicable on festive occasions, when the customer is allowed to send as many SMSes he/she wants.
Furthermore, the TRAI has also proposed that in the case of post-paid telephone numbers, the access provider should not be allowed over 3,000 SMSes per SIM on monthly basis.
As the recommendations comes into affect from tomorrow, all those subscribers that have registered with the National Customer Preference Registry, which was previously known as the 'Do Not Call Registry', would be getting relief from all sort of commercial communications.
In the past, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has requested the telecom regulator to reconsider its proposal to limit the number of SMSs per SIM card to 100. It had further said that such a rule is expected to pose as a challenge to the fundamental rights of the subscribers.
