Is HLR opertaor specific?

Hi Teleguys,

Hope u all fine.

Is HLR operator specific? Means Is HLR database contains the details of subscriber of single operator?
If that is d case, How call forwarding will happen when Subscriber B (belongs to vodafone) forwarded his call to Subscriber C (belongs to Airtel customer)?

Yes. HLR is operator

Yes. HLR is operator specific.
I guess your question is how mobile network knows where to forward calls if numbers aren't from same operator? When you activate call forwarding via USSD or Customer Care or something third, there is a CF flag in HLR that is then set to true and has number that you pointed as your destination. That is how this looks in HLR.

Ok now when A party calls B party, A operator looks in own MNP database to check if this number is ported in or ported out or neither, after that B number is normalized and there is RN (routing number) added. RN is unique for every operator in country. After that operators G-MSC or MSS knows to which operator route call, or better to say which operator to ask HLR informations about that number. Because B party has CF flag in HLR set to true, the whole process of with MNP dbase, normalization, RN is repeted between B and C operator.

After that route info is returned to A operator and call takes place.
