I am working on several telephony projects that require information about the calling party, location in particular. Currently this information is obtained (when available) through NPANXX lookup based on the caller's ANI which is passed along to our media servers via SIP or VXML. This works pretty well for landlines but locating mobile phones is less than optimal. We would like to start doing a more precise look-up, especially for our mobile subscribers. I am considering a platform that would allow me to abstract location based information using IN protocols such as MAP and CAMEL. Specifically I have considered a TCAP query to the VLR for TLDN lookup based on MSISDN.
Does this sound reasonable? If so does anybody have any experience using the OpenSS7 TUA stack in conjunction with Asterisk or is there another commercial solution one would recommend?
