    Hi,

Does anyone has any idea on how the MAP segmentation and reassembly is done?

    Cheers

    Hi
The MAP segmentation is nothing but msg segmented at application level
so between MAP-BEGIN , MAP-END msgs, MAP-CONTINUE msgs will comes in to picture
    Ex: MAP-ISD

    Hi,

Does it mean that application will always send the mandatory parameters of the messages again and again? Because if mandatory parameters are missing, ASN.1 encoding shall fail.

Will each of the segmented messages that are sent on the network also contain mandatory parameters?

MAP protocol does segmentation for result of any invoke, If you configure MAP to do segmentation with segment size , then MAP layer segments the message if MAP gets more byte than the configured size from MAP Application. MAP sends the segmentation as RESULT_NL and last segment as RESULT_L to TCAP , At the receiving side MAP reassemble these segmented messages and decode as one message or it decode each segment and then reassmble as one message, After reassmble MAP layer pass result message to MAP Application.
There is no options in MAP layer to do segmentation of INVOKE in ITU.
If MAP application is doing segmentation then its diffrent story, I think in this case MAP application can directly intreact to TCAP layer apis and send the segmentation in one dialgue as continue.

Here Map layer will call TCAP(Application layer) API's  to do the segmentation
where the Max signalling PDU length is 279 bytes .
If the mandatory params are ther then u have to send those in each segmented msg
    otherwise encoding will fail.
So in segmentation the complete dialogue will have  BEGIN,CONTINUE,END msg's.
