I am currently working as a 2g GSM core engineer and have the opportunity to switch to IMS core field (working on sip, cscf etc) with a leading vendor

how do you look upon ims core , does it have any future? should I avail this opportunity ?

    My friend,
The entire Telecom Market is heading down the path of IMS. Today most of the teleco across the globe are running typical SS7 networks. Some handful of competitive telco are doing VOIP. Some large Telcos are overlaying with SIP/SIPT network core. There will be interworking between IP and SS7 over the next 5-10 years until the SIP network evolution potentially overtakes SS7. But for now is the the next generation network Technology that is driving the softswitch market, IMS market and forcing tradition Telco engineers to continue their education into the VOIP/SIP/IMS/CONVERGENCE/NEXT GENERATION technologies.

If you have a opportunity to go VOIP/SIP/IMS engineering. Take it.

Ride the wave of the furture here my friend.

Hi, you are right about ims/ip core being the future but If you look at the job market of today than you will find hardly any job related to sip/ims etc ?

It is already picking up very fast. There will be demand soon. So, I think a career in IMS would be a great option for your future.
