SIGTRAN/SS7-IP

Hi
Where is the Sigtran or SS7oIP used in telecom networks?
What are the typical scenarios where it is useful?

TIA.

MSC /WCS now uses IP as transport protocol.MSC/WCS are connected to other legacy ss7 devices like HLR/SMSC/IN platforms via IP Signalling gateway.Typical signalling gateway is Cisco ITP widely deployed in 3G networks.

ISUP interconnects are interfaced to MSC /WCS via Media Gateway .MG talks with MSC/WCS using h.248  on IP protocol.Sigtran is used in this scenario.

Hope this  answers if not let me know I will elaborate.

Well, simple explanation of Sigtran is that it is use where by the sending and the receiving end being PSTN with Ip for transport, instead of using Two Gateway  for protocol conversion, sigtran can b use for encapsulation at the sending end and deencapsulation at the receiving end.
