Hi everyone,
I am new to USSD and SMPP. I would like to ask a few questions, please enlighten me.
1. I know that we need Ip number, port number, SMSC account and password to connect to SMSC. I would like to know what devices are required to connect to SMSC? There must be some kind of hardware channel to communicate with the SMSC like modem to connect to internet.
2. I know that we can recieve USSD requests through SMPP. What other options are there to recieve and send USSD requests and response?
3. If there are any other options to send and recieve the USSD strings, what are the advantages and disadvantages of sending USSD strings over SMPP?
Thanks in advance for help.
regards,
Roshan
Hi,
A 1. connection to SMSC is network based - Ethernet.
A 2. you can through SS7 connection but you will need SS7 cards.

You can connect to SMSC over TCP/IP using SMPP protocol or connect using MAP protocol over SS7 or SIGTRAN (SS7 over IP)
I was not aware that you can receive USSD request via SMPP, good to know that

Thanks all. Finally, I have developed an SMPP application that can send and recieve SMS and Picture SMS. And now I am trying to add WAP push into it.
Does anyone have any idea on how to implement USSD over SMPP. I know TLV parameters need to be set but I want the information in detail.
