Hi,
can someone please update where exactly INAP CS1 / INAP CS2 and CAP protocol are used in a IN network from the perspective of signalling ( call setup in home network vs Roaming ) and between which SS7 signaling nodes ?

Hi sripathys
INAP vs CAP
The basice differenece is INAP is for fixed networks an CAP is for mobile networks to do the billing
IN -CS1 is the first standardised stage fo IN
IN -CS2 is the second standardised stage fo IN and it supports broadband services, bearer services ,call party handling etc... which r the limiations of IN-CS1
INAP,CAMEL protocols r used as interface between SSP,SCP
SSF:service swithcing function
SCF:service control function
SDF:service data function
SRF:specialised resource function
INAP
SSFSCF
INAP
SCFSRF
CAMEL
SSFSCF
INAP:
eg:(VCC)
CAMEL:
(prepaid billing for Mobiles,SMS-MO,SMS-MT etc...)
Thanks a lot pramod for the detailed explanation.
I'm new to these concepts of fixed and mobile networks . Is my understanding of fixed networks refers to PSTN and mobile networks refers to where GSM is deployed.
I'm working on a Prepaid billing product and we receive both INAP & CAP signaling messages as part of call setup. The gsmSSF in some of customer networks send INAP InitialDP message to our gsmSCF and where CAMEL is deployed we receive CAP IDP.
from the explanation that you given does this mean we support both fixed and mobile networks ?
Fixed networks send PSTN calls ( landline) towards Prepaid billing product and mobile networks send Mobile orginated calls ?

Hi
yes if u recieve INAP and CAP means ur IN application (SCP) is supporting
both Fixed and Mobile networks, but both r for real time billing only.
Not all PSTN calls r routed ur IN(prepaid product)
For Normal PSTN calls charing will be done at the end based on CDR's
Only IN calls will b routed to IN.
Hi Sripathys,
INAP and CAP are IN protocols and both of them are used in wireless networks.
CAP is an enhanced version of INAP protocol .
one major difference is that CAP supports real time charging in roaming as well whereas INAP doesn't.
different versions of CAP release support different services as describer below.
CAMEL Phase I - No access to SRF,NO online charging for SMS in HOME network and in Roaming.
CAMEL Phase II- Voice online charging, Access to SRF, SMS - Offline charging while roaming.
CAMEL Phase III- Voice online charging, SMS ,Packet - Online charging while roaming
Hi,
Can someone tell me what is the basic difference between Camel phase-1 & 2. and Phase-3 & 4
Thanks
kishore
