Telecom Inventory News: FBI Investigates ZTE Deals in Iran
The FBI has started a criminal investigation over Chinese Telecom Company ZTE over the sale of banned US Equipment in Iran. Based on a report by Reuters last March, ZTE sold Telecommunication Co. of Iran, the country’s largest telecom firm, powerful surveillance system capable of monitoring landline, mobile and Internet communications.
The $120 million contract with the Middle East firm also included the sale of prohibited hardware and software products from various tech companies, including Oracle Corp, Cisco Systems, and Microsoft.
U.S. House of Representatives’ Intelligence Committee is also looking into whether the recent deal poses a threat to national security.
