Best Telecommunications Company for VOIP

Hello,

Our main concern actually has been with our current ISP.  We have a business account and, to say the least, the connection has been inconsistent.  Actually for regular internet access it has been sufficient, but for VoIP transmissions the statistics are just not there.  We have, at times, been experiencing up to 2% data loss, and ~6ms average jitter.  From our understanding all of these factors has affected our QoS to be anywhere from 30% to 84%.  ???

Obviously, this is something we need to address ? soon.

We have been shopping around for ISPs, specifically in the T1 range (which evidently can ensure specific QoS standards).  We have identified a few ISPs that seem to fit our need, and we?d like to pass them by you guys first:

ISP List

ACC
Level 3
Qwest
Sprint
Nuvox
Paetec
AT&T

Any tips or advice on which teleco would provide the best service would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

ACC and AT&T are the same ISP. ACC is just an AT&T brand.

No carrier is going to guarantee traffic over public interent connections. So you will only get what you get. If you want guaranteed IP traffic, you have to move to MPLS. That being said, I have seen many customers run VOIP successfully over ISPs if they are all the same network.

All the carriers you listed are good ones. If you sites are very far apart, I would stick with the Tier 1s. Again, no guarantees.

dahlend1 , All are good

dahlend1 ,

All are good companies. It would really depend on what types of applications that you are going to put on your network; voice being the most important application, then video, then data. If you have a solid network with QoS and CoS, you should not see that much packet loss.

If you plan on layering a lot of applications such as video, I would recommend Qwest or Level3. The Qwest network is one of the most solid networks given it's 16 layers where most have 3 or 4.

If you do not plan on putting a lot of applications on your network, then you can realize some cost saving in carriers such as PAETEC, Nuvox (Windstream) or XO.

Please let me know if I can help in any other way.

Companies guarantee QoS (Quality of service)

I work for 1 of the largest VoIP providers in the UK, and we guarantee a QoS (Depending on site survey) So there are companies out there.

You could also look down the hybrid route fo analogue/digital/VOIP etc just to provide a failover.
