Is the higher education worth it in the telecommunications field.

Hello! I live in Latvia (Europe) and I am graduating from my school this year as a telecom technician. So, in a real market - which guy employer would rather take - assuming, that I graduated university as a telecom engineer on average (fresh out of university) and are applying to the same position as an telecom technician with a 4 year field experience. So now there is the question - should I go to the university, to get a higher education in this field? To my understanding, in a long run a university graduate have more potential job offerings in the higher part of the pyramid, and at some point, even jobs, that a guy, who is only a telecom technician graduate could never get. But the higher you are, the more time (hours a day/weekends) you need to spend dedicated to the job, and that is what I don't want - just living my life for my career. I'm not lazy, but my goal is obtaining financial freedom, so later I could do things, that I really want to do, and on that list, there is not working in some big company, and answering to someone superior on a daily basis. So keeping this in mind, for a guy like me, would it be worth it, to go to university?
