Re: CONNECT and CONTINUE

you can find the details in any ITU-T standards.

In layman's language, you use continue when you don't want to chnage any parameters in call processing and you use connect when you want to change parameters like destinationRoutingAddress, originalCalledPartyID, redirectingPartyID etc

From GSM 09.78 version 7.1.0 Release 1998

## Connect ##
This operation is used to request the gsmSSF to perform the call processing actions to route a call to a specific
destination or to influence other call set-up information, e.g. the Generic Number.

## Continue ##
This operation is used to request the gsmSSF to proceed with call processing at the DP at which it previously suspended
call processing to await gsmSCF instructions. The gsmSSF continues call processing without substituting new data from
the gsmSCF.

very well explained by Ved :) Just to extend it more by example : If you call a short number from your phone, say "911", when the gsmSSF will send it to gsmSCF...SCP will for a number(a long number on which 911 call can be routed") ,lets say that number is 123456. gsmSCF in this case will reply to SSF with " CONNECT" message and will provide SSF with the long number 123456 to complete the call.

But if you dial a long number which is complete in itself ..then gsmSCF will reply IDP message from SSF with " CONTINUE" message. I hope I'm able to make it clear and please let me know if I'm wrong anywhere :) Thanks

Re: CONNECT and CONTINUE

Hi,

I'll explain the application point of you..
CONNECT:

if customer wants to so the number translation or ported number usage theu will
use this message to coonect appropriate B party number.

Continue:

some customer (for example ITaly market and having lot of ported numbers) will have the centralised SCP and all the calls will be routed via this SCP(even for the A to B basic call).if the B party number is not a ported number then scp will give the continue message and normal routing will be applied ....
