How do I know if the originated call is from a mobile

Hi,

How do I know that an originating call is from a cellphone. Is there a field in SS7 that tells me this? Or do we have to do a lookup of some sort to the Network?

No, there is no field that

No, there is no field that tells you this. You need to extract the calling number and compare that to a database of number series that contains this information. (Such a database is usually not readily available, you need to build one based on heaps and heaps and heaps of pdf and word documents..)

You don't care whether its from cellphone, Skype, landline...MSC takes care of this through intricate number analysis tables. The incoming set up/IAM may contain PSTN number, MSRN, MSISDN number. Depending on what is configured in called number prefixes table, MSC will classify it as an incoming trunk call, mobile originated local call or mobile originated from another MSC within the same network.....

You care if e.g. you're building a support system capable of producing reports based and statistics on CDRs that differentiates the termination types. You might also care if you're a carrier not owning any MSC, but still want to route calls based on their origin or final termination. You need a database that does that classification. (Which certainly can be implemented as prefix table).
