Hi !
Can anybody, plz, differentiate between SMSC and SMPP responsibilities ?

Is SMPP a part of SMSC ? If so, what are other responsibilities of SMSC ?

i'll be really grateful for any body's response.

SMPP is a protocol.. SMSC is a system that handles messages.

ESMEs use SMPP protocol to talk to SMSCs

Hi !
        Thankx for differentiating!
Actually, i have developed an SMSC (IS-41 CDMA) using a board that supports IS-41 over SS7 network.
Now, i want my messages to be sent over IP network also. How can i communicate SMPP server and SMSC applications, so that i can send send/receive messages between SS7 and IP networks ?

What you need to do is the interface of SMPP. The ESME would use SMPP to transmit message over TCP/IP.

Hi,

In your SMSC arcitecture one module will be there called SMPP Server that intreacts and maintain session with ESME, Other module will be ther for interacting with ss7 network , Now some message is pushed by ESME to SMSC ,  At the SMSC end smpp messages are processed by SMPP Server and after doing validation for mandatory parameter it gives to module which interacts with ss7, ss7 module encode messages according to IS41 or MAP specification for SMS and forward it to MSC.

Hope this will help you to understand the SMS flow between ESME and ss7 network.

Regards,
Dinesh
